Brian Del Rosario
for Santaquin City Council
Meet Brian
My name is Brian Del Rosario. My family and I have lived in Santaquin for almost 4 years. My wife and I have 2 beautiful daughters. We feel very fortunate to be in a great community where we can raise our family.
I graduated from the BYU Marriott School of Business with a degree in Management Information Systems. Throughout my professional career I have worked in tech. I've been able to help scale and automate processes, and improve efficiencies.
I love Santaquin and hope that I can help contribute to keeping Santaquin a great place to live. I hope that as a member of city council I can help improve communication and ensure that our city intentionally plans for the growth ahead. I believe that clear communication and ensuring everybody’s perspectives are heard is essential to building a community where everyone feels they belong.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out. Your perspective matters.
Why I'm running for city council
While there are many things a city council is responsible for, there are three main areas of focus that I believe will help keep Santaquin a great place to raise a family while also addressing our city’s challenges.
Intentionally planning for growth
Diversifying city revenues
Improving communication
Intentionally planning for growth
Santaquin is growing. Many great people are moving to our town because Santaquin is a great place to raise a family and one of the most affordable places in Utah County.
With fast-paced growth our city can experience, among other things, some growing pains: increased road traffic, higher overall costs for city services, and a loss of our small-town character.
It’s important that city council and administration/staff work together to proactively plan how we want to grow as a city that reduces the amount of “growing pains” that come with growth.
City council can and should review zoning, ordinances, code, and budgets to ensure that growth occurs in a way that maintains Santaquin as a great place to raise a family while also respecting property rights.
City council does not need to change city codes to appease big builders, like what has been done in the past. Thorough analysis should be done to determine what's best for our town in the long term.
Proactive planning is more effective than reacting to growth.
Diversifying city revenues
In years past, our city has relied on incidental income (non-recurring revenue) as a way to fund our city’s budgets. This past year, due to multiple factors, one being a sudden drop in fees collected as part of development growth, our city had to raise city property taxes to fill the budget shortfall.
The recent large raising of property taxes was a result of poor planning and budgeting.
While at times it is necessary to raise taxes, city council should look for other ways to diversify our city income to avoid future tax increases.
Diversify city revenues by enabling and encouraging business development to occur in the city limits, and thereby increasing the potential amount of sales tax we collect.
Improving communication
It’s important that all residents have an opportunity to be involved. The city should deliberately plan a communication strategy that:
Continually informs residents of what is going on within the city (recreation, services, government meetings and issues)
Allows residents easy ways to provide feedback and ask questions (leverage more free or low-cost digital tools)
Meets residents where they are at (presenting information and collecting feedback in a way that’s easy to understand and accessible to residents in all stages of life)
Engage continually with business owners to understand how Santaquin can support local businesses.
Implements a re-organization of the city website that is more intuitive to navigate
